Manage Roles

In Trimble Unity Construct, users are able to perform certain tasks based on the permissions that have been given to them. While you are able to give individual permissions in some modules, as a best practice, we recommended setting permissions per role instead. This will maximize the efficiency of your audits and help you better manage user permissions across the account.

Roles come in two tiers: account roles and project level roles. All the roles that need to be available in your projects must exist at the account level, such as Accounting, Administrative Assistants, Project Managers, and General Contractors. However, to customize the permissions of a role from project to project, you must add users to those roles at the project level, but they must not be in that role at the account level. In short, create all of the roles that you will need at the account level. Whether or not you add users to those roles will be based on whether or not you want the users in that role to have account level permissions, or project-level permissions.

Account roles are one of the first things to be completed when an account becomes active; however, as your organization changes, the need for new account roles may arise. On the Manage Roles page you can add, remove and modify account roles. Account roles are necessary in order to grant permissions in a unified manner.

Account roles must exist, even if you are enacting project level roles.

A check mark in the Admin Role column indicates that this is an Administrator Role; a distinction that allows administrators to give the members of this role additional permission typically reserved for the account administrator. Below is a list of the permissions that can be given to the Administrator Role:

  • Manage Users: Allow users to add/edit users for the projects they are a member of.
  • Manage Memberships: Allow users to add/edit projects and users for the projects they are a member of.
  • Manage Processes: Allow users to add/edit processes and workflows of the projects they are a member of.
  • Manage Workflows: Allow users to modify process instances on the projects they are a member of, such as overriding a workflow and delegating process instances.
  • Manage Cost Templates: Allow users to add/edit the budget, cash flow, and forecast templates of the projects they are a member of.
  • Manage Schedule Templates: Allow users to add/edit schedule templates of the projects they are a member of.
  • Manage Forms: Allow users to add/edit forms for the projects they are a member of.
  • Manage Planning Templates: Allow users to add/edit planning templates of the projects they are a member of.

  1. From the top navigation tabs, click the Setup tab or from the Utility menu by clicking the drop-down arrow next to your user name.

    2. If the Setup tab is not visible, click Access the Setup Tab, and then select the Setup check box.

  2. In the Administration Tools section, click Users.
  3. Click Manage Roles.

This task can be completed by: 

  • Account Administrators
  • Participants with 'Manage Membership' permission

To add new account roles

  1. Go to the Manage Roles page.
  2. Click Add Role.
  3. In the Name field, enter a name for this account role.
    • The Is Administration Role? setting is set to No by default. Making this an Admin Role will enable you to give this role permissions that are typically reserved for account administrators. To learn more, see About Trimble Unity Construct Administrative Roles.
    • Only custom fields which are editable by specific roles appear in the Custom Field Permissions section. If applicable, choose whether this new role will be able to view or edit the custom fields listed. If a selection is not made, this role will not be able to view the listed custom fields.
  4. Click Save.

    5. From here you can Add Users to Account Roles.

This task can be completed by: 

  • Account Administrators
  • Participants with 'Manage Membership' permission

To remove account roles

  1. Go to the Manage Roles.
  2. Select the check box next to the role you wish to remove.
  3. Click Remove Role(s).
