View / Add Account Role

The View / Edit Account Role pages allow account administrators and those with Manage User permission to perform various functions, such as add users to a role, and create new roles. Access to various functions in e-Builder is permission based. While permissions can be given to individual users, as a best practice, they should be managed by roles.

To maintain project-level permissions, do not add users to the role at the account level. For more information, see Account Role Management.

  1. From the top navigation tabs, click the Setup tab or from the Utility menu by clicking the drop-down arrow next to your user name.

    2. If the Setup tab is not visible, click Access the Setup Tab, and then select the Setup check box.

  2. In the Administration Tools section, click Users.
  3. Click Manage Roles.
  4. Select the account role you wish to view.

  2. In the Administration Tools section, click Users.
  3. Click Manage Roles.
  4. Click Add Role.

View Account Role

To diversify someone's permissions from project to project, you can apply the permissions of their role to the project level. This will allow you to give their role one set of permissions in Project A and another set of permissions in Project B. For example, Jane Doe may be the lead on all Campus projects, and John Doe the lead on all Medical Center projects. Project level permissions allow you to modify their permissions accordingly between projects A and B.

This task can be completed by: 

  • Account Administrators
  • Participants with 'Manage Membership' permission
  1. Go to View Account Role page.

    2. All users currently in the account role are listed on the Users table.

  2. Select the check box next to the users you want to add to the role.
  3. Click Apply to Project Level.

    4. See Edit Project Role Associations for instructions on placing users in different project roles across different projects.

  4. Click OK.

    5. Click the number in the Project Level column to view the projects that the user is a member of.

Users can be added to account roles at any time. As a best practice, role membership should be updated just as soon as a new person joins the organization/ project or when user roles change.

  1. Go to View Account Role page.
  2. Click Add User to Role.
  3. Select the check box next to the users you want to add to this role.
  4. Click Add User.

This task can be completed by: 

  • Account Administrators
  • Participants with 'Manage User' permission

Users might have to be removed from account roles if they are no longer part of the organization or if they are being added to a project level role. When applying project level roles, it is necessary to remove these users from the account role because the account level permissions will take precedence. Once this occurs, project level roles will take effect.

  1. Go to View Account Role page.
  2. Click the title of the role
  3. Select the check box next to the user(s) you want to remove from the account role.
  4. Click Remove From Role.

    5. If this role has a project level assignment, this action will only remove them from the role at the account level. This is necessary to ensure the user only has access at the project level. See About Project Level Roles for more information.

  5. Click OK.

Add Account Role

This task can be completed by: 

  • Account Administrators
  • Participants with 'Manage Membership' permission

To add new account roles

  1. Go to the Manage Roles page.
  2. Click Add Role.
  3. In the Name field, enter a name for this account role.
    • The Is Administration Role? setting is set to No by default. Making this an Admin Role will enable you to give this role permissions that are typically reserved for account administrators. To learn more, see About e-Builder Administrative Roles.
    • Only custom fields which are editable by specific roles appear in the Custom Field Permissions section. If applicable, choose whether this new role will be able to view or edit the custom fields listed. If a selection is not made, this role will not be able to view the listed custom fields.
  4. Click Save.

    5. From here you can Add Users to Account Roles.
