Geographic Information System (GIS)
A geographic information system (GIS) lets you to connect data to a map, integrating location data with descriptive information.
GIS for Trimble Unity Construct allows you to perform the following actions:
- Connect and display your ArcGIS web maps to projects and processes by role.
- Pinpoint project and process locations on the map so that office and mobile workers can identify the work locations easily.
- Use map tools like measure, editor, navigation, base map, layer list
Pre-requisites
- GIS is included in your current licenses at no added cost.
- Requires Esri only - Needs ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Portal access
- Only Administrators can perform some tasks such as adding the web maps to an account.
- If your data is secure, users will be prompted for authentication on the GIS side as well.
Configure GIS
There are three parts to configuring GIS for use:
Add and Manage Web Maps
A web map is an interactive display of geographic information that contains a base map and a set of data layers or assets. Administrators can add, view, edit and delete one or more web maps for an account using the Map Location page (Setup> Administration Tools> Map Location).
Multiple web maps can be used based on roles. The default map will be available to all users.
To remove the default map, you must remove all other maps first. If more than one map is added to the account, the Delete button will not be available on the default map.
- On the Map Location page, click Add default map.
- The Add default map popup is displayed.
- Enter the following required fields:
- Name: The name for the web map.
- Web share URL: The web sharing URL in Esri which is already configured if you are using ArcGIS Online. To use your ArcGIS Portal instead, replace "www.arcgis.com" with your portal URL.
- Web Map ID: The web map ID in Esri.
- Click Save.
The map is added to the account and will be available to all users. The card for the default map will display the Default Map badge.
- On the Map Location page, click Add map.
- The Add map popup is displayed.
- Enter the following required fields:
- Name: The name for the web map.
- Web share URL: The web sharing URL in Esri which is already configured if you are using ArcGIS Online. To use your ArcGIS Portal instead, replace "www.arcgis.com" with your portal URL.
- Web Map ID: The web map ID in Esri.
- Roles: Select the check boxes beside the user roles that need to access this map.
- Click Save.
The map is added to the account.
- On the Map Location page, locate the card for the map you wish to preview.
- Click the preview button. The selected map is displayed.
- On the Map Location page, locate the card for the map you wish to edit.
- Click the edit button. The Edit map page is displayed.
- Make the changes, as needed.
- Click Save.
- On the Map Location page, locate the card for the map you wish to delete.
- Click the delete button. The Remove map page is displayed.
- Click Remove map to confirm the deletion.
- On the Map Location page, locate the card for the Default map.

- Click Remove map to confirm the deletion.
Add Project Location
After web maps have been configured for the account, Project Administrators can add locations to projects. This project location can be viewed by users with access to the projects.
The Map Location can be set to a different location than the project address.
- On the Projects page, click Add. The Add Project page is displayed.
- In the Map location field, click Choose from map. The map window is displayed.
- In the Add map location for project window, navigate to an area on the map to use it as the project location. Click and move the map to move to a different location on it. For more information, see Map Tools.
- Click to draw a point on the map.
- Click Save Location. The selected location will be added and displayed on the Project Details section.
- Click Save to save and create the new project.
- On the Projects page, click Edit beside the project you wish to modify. The Edit Project Details page is displayed.
- In the Map location field, click Choose from map. The map window is displayed.
- In the Add map location for project window, navigate the area on the map you wish to use as the project location.
- Click Save Location. The selected location will be displayed on the project details section.
- Click Save to save and create the new project.
- On the Projects page, click the name of project. The Project Details page is displayed.
- In the Map location field, click View map. The map window is displayed.
- Click Close.
- On the Projects page, click the name of project. The Project Details page is displayed.
- In the Map location field, click XYZ coordinates. The coordinates are displayed.
- Click beside each coordinate to copy it.
Add Process Location
Administrators can geo-enable processes and then add locations to each process. You can set permissions to view or edit in the Page Layouts tab. When a geo-enabled process is started, you will be able to view the Map location on the Start Process page.
- Go to Setup.
- In the Administration Tools section, click Processes.
- Click Manage Processes.
- Click the name of the process you want to modify.
- Click the Edit button.
- On the page, select the Map Location Enabled check box.
- Click Save.
- Go to the Project Processes page.
- Click the Start process button.
- Search for a process and click Start. The Start Process page is displayed.
- In the Map location field, click Choose from map. The map window is displayed.
- Navigate to an area on the map to use it as the process location. Click and move the map to move to a different location on it. For more information, see Map Tools.
- Click to draw a point on the map.
- Click Save Location. The selected location will be added to the process.
- Click Submit.
