Add Field Dependencies
Custom field dependencies can only be created with multi-pick lists and drop-down list custom fields because dependencies are created based on the values of these fields.
Custom field dependencies allow you to specify a controlling field, that when selected will display specific options for project participants to choose from. You do not have to select a dependency for each of the field values. Blank fields will be treated as if there is no field dependency assigned and users will be presented with all the values available for the custom field. To learn more, see About Custom Field Dependencies.
To add custom field dependencies
- Go to the Global Custom Fields page.
- Click Field Dependencies.
- Click Add Dependency to set up the relationship.
- Select the controlling and dependent fields.
- Click Next.
- Map the dependencies as appropriate to each controlling field. Values of the controlling field display as the header of the table. Values of the dependent fields are listed vertically.
- Click Save to complete this task.
For instructions, see Access Global Custom Fields Page.
The controlling field is the primary field of selection that will determine the available options of a subsequent field, which is referred to as the dependent field. For examples or to learn more, see About Custom Field Dependencies.
