When is the Plan Room a Fit?

The plan room was designed to function on a project by project basis to ensure that you are getting the most out of the investment required to set up and maintain it. To help you make this decision, these are some questions you need to ask to determine if the plan room is a good fit for a particular project.

  • Number of Documents: Does this project have a large number of project documents and relationships between the documents (i.e. trade, zone, floor, etc.)? The plan room is ideal for large document sets, facilitating an organized and easy-to use document structure where users can easily locate the files they need. One client shared with us they had upwards of 500 documents which would have been otherwise unmanageable without the plan room. For small programs, the standard Trimble Unity Construct document management folder structures work well.
  • Project Size: Is this a complex project that includes a large scope, multi-story structures, many different trades, specialized zones, floors, etc.? Such projects benefit from the plan room's ability to group and organize files related by these attributes.
  • Large Number of Casual Document Viewers: Are there many different casual Trimble Unity Construct users that need to access the documents in this project? Plan room makes it easier and simpler for the casual Trimble Unity Construct user; someone who only uses Trimble Unity Construct every once in a while to find the documents they are looking for. Experienced Trimble Unity Construct users know how to get around and know where to look. The typical casual user is (1) a bidder; or (2) a facility end user, someone who works at the hospital, school etc. and just needs access to a drawing every once in a while. If there is a large casual user base, you'll be able to justify the administrative overhead that is necessary by way of a document controller, to get everything organized and set up.
